Day 1 Fllight Swiss Zurich-Moscow (dep. 0945, arr 1505)
Transfer with bus to the hotel Ukraina in the city center. The rest of the day is free. In the evening, visit of a ballet, concert, opera or the famous Moscow Circus.
Day 2 Visit of Moscow's famous sights: Red Square, Kremlin, Basilius cathedral, GUM, Pushkin museum. In the afternoon, shoping in Moscow's pedestrian area around the "Arbat" and visit of the Lenin library. Departure with the Transsiberian Express Nr. 10 at 23.30 leaving from Yaroslav station.
Day 3-6 On the Transsiberian train: Vladimir, Nishni Novgorod, (previously called Gorki), and Perm, Yekatarinburg, Tjumen, Omsk, Novosibirsk and endless forests. Food/beverage is provided by the dining car or the many dealers on the platforms.
Day 6 After 87 hours in the train (and 5191 km distance) arrival in Irkutsk (0800). Transfer to the hotel Angara, and sight-seeing in Irkutsk, the 'Paris' of Siberia with its pulsing street life and trading activities.
Day 7 Transfer to the port by bus and travel by hydrofoil on Lake Baikal to Listwjanka (90 min). Accommodation in a wooden guest house of Prof. Maximov, the director of the local limnological institute. Full board (3 meals a day).
Day 8 Excursion/walk along the shore of Lake Baikal. In the evening return to Irkutsk by bus. Accommodation Hotel Angara. Those looking for an adventure can also sleep in an ice tent on the frozen lake Baikal.
Day 9 Departure to Ulan Bator (0800). Full day/night On train - passing lake Baikal, and Ulan Ude.
Day 10 Arrival in Ulan Bator at 0813. Sightseeing tour (1 day, minibus) incl. Ganden and Choizhin monastery, and the natural science museum. Mongolian evening with theater and performances. Accommodaiton at hotel Undruul
Day 11 Transfer to Terelj, a scenic park and ger camp, by mit jeep/minibus. Visit of a Mongolian Nomadic family. Accommodation with full board in a ger at Terelj (modern ger with shower and warm water!). Horse-riding is available at Terelj for those interested.
Day 12 Return to Ulan Bator in the afternoon. Accommodation at hotel Undruul.
Day 13 Departure from Ulan Bator at 0930. Spectacular journey through the Gobi desert. Stop at border Erlian to change boogies. Accommodation in the train. Before arrival in Beijing, the train passes several times the Great Chinese Wall.
Day 14 Arrival in Beijing at 1533, Accommodation at hotel Red Wall, located near the Central railway station.
Day 15 Beijing sightseeing tour (Forbidden city, Summer palace, temple of Heaven, Chinese market). Accommodation: hotel Red Wall.
Day 16 Flight back to Zurich (dep. 1355, Swiss). Arrival in Zurich at 1830.
